and the list goes on. This time, the episode was based around a trip Kim and Kris took to Vienna and the racism they experienced while they were there.
Kim and Kris plan on spending a glamorous evening at the Vienna ball and the trip couldn’t be anything but. After they make it there, Kris discovers multiple items have been stolen from her luggage. A lot of the items seem to be very expensive and this time I have to give it to Kris, she didn’t flip out at the money that just went down the drain, but she was really rattled by the violation of someone going through her stuff and taking it. So already the trip was off to a bad start. They were hoping the rest of the time wouldn’t be as bad, but they were definitely wrong. They show up to
the ball and there is a man dressed up in black face pretending to be Kayne. That made them both extremely uncomfortable, and then immediately following that, Kim does an interview with a host and a comedian and he drops the N word like he was talking about the weather. Kim is totally shocked and all they wanted to do was to get the F out of there. You could see the look on their faces, it was just utter disgust. Then comes the plane ride home, where they are verbally assaulted by a woman who is screaming about North, “She was with a black guy, that baby is black, shut that black baby up!” They she proceeded to scream about Kim’s sex tape. It got so out of control that the pilot had to come in to see what was going on. They promised they would call the LAPD upon arrival. As a mother, I would have been totally freaked out and scared for my security and the security of my child. Who does that in this day and age? It’s wrong on so many levels. Kim gets home and decides to write a blog about how her eyes have been opened to racism like never before. My husband actually watched this episode, which is a true rarity and he told me that racism is truly loud and proud in Europe, a thought totally unknown to me. I was shocked and appalled. How can this be? How can people act this way? Where is the justice? I tend to hide my head in the sand when I hear things that scare me deeply about the world I am raising my children in and in this instance, I wish I didn’t, I
wish I wasn’t totally ignorant to the notion. Surprisingly Kim made a good point where she stated that she didn’t realize how prevalent racism was until she brought a bi-racial child into this world. I can honestly relate to her in this regard, and I am sure a lot of people can. We think racism isn’t really that bad because it doesn’t impact us, but the truth is it alive in Europe and its alive and well in the US. Knowing this is the first step in making sure you don’t contribute to this. So many of us growing up heard little comments other adults made and it becomes internalized and shapes young minds. We can make a difference (albeit a little difference) by just changing our language and not
perpetuating that racism, and not planting seeds in the minds of our children. We can make a difference by realizing our world isn’t discrimination free and we can’t turn a blind eye to it, even if we desperately want too. So in the end, Kim shows a different side to her, a more complex side to her and we welcome it. The world isn’t all rainbows and sunshine. Sometimes those storms are really
dark and twisty.
Kourtney also experiences some trouble during this episode in her journey to face change for her family. She and Scott have purchased their dream home after a year of looking. The house is large and gorgeous with an amazing back yard. Everything seems perfect until an unexpected guest shows up to the party. YUCK a large disgusting RAT! Ah. Who wouldn’t be freaked out by that?!?! I gotta side with Kourtney on this, that is just disgusting. There is nothing worse than vermin in my mind. (I’ve had my fair share of dealings with mice over the years of apartment living). It totally dampens the mood and sends Kourtney screaming back to the old house. She is feeling overwhelmed by the rat and overwhelmed by the thought of moving and getting the new house in order. Scott is over it and decides to just put a bed down and stay there, trying to make the point of let’s get going. Kourtney
agrees only after having an exterminator survey the house. All is well.
We’ll see what next episode
