I chose to host this year and that definitely put on the extra pressure. With two little ones running around, it’s kinda hard to say to your husband, here handle getting food ready for a party of 10. So we tried to divide and conquer the chores and I thought by making something in the crock pot that would make life a little easier (if you like pulled pork, definitely check out this recipe here.) In theory it should have, but my husband I have very different views of what needs to be done to host. The downfall is that we then tend to bicker and take out the stress of hosting on one another. We haven’t quite perfected our roles as hosts by any stretch of the imagination. I hope as time goes on we’ll try to get a little more focus and a little less bicker.
But this day wasn’t about that, it was about Moms. The longer I am a Mom, the more I
appreciate other Moms in my life, and Moms in general. We are our child’s biggest fan and
strongest advocate, we’re the caretakers and nurses, kissing every boo –boo and cuddling little bodies, we’re playmates, getting dirty in the grass, mud and sand, pushing swings, playing pee a boo and hide and seek, we’re educators, teaching wrong from right, reading stories about other lives, and teaching lessons, were disciplinarians, explaining rules and boundaries, pushing time out’s and ‘be
careful’’s, we’re ringleaders of love, expressing it with hugs, kisses and ‘I love you’’s. We do it all, and sometimes (at least in my case almost all the time) we don’t always do it well. We get back up and try try try again and we do it all for the little ones, the ones that keep us up at night with worry, higher than a kite with pride, and a puddle of mush on the ground with love. Motherhood is filled
with incredible highs and lows and in a few short years, I have experienced them all and I can only imagine the ride gets more intense with age. Motherhood is the only role where the boss expects results 24/7. The boss can at times be whiny, demanding, and needy. The boss can get you up at night and expect more from you than anyone else in your life. The boss can also give you a sense of
purpose and self-felt never before. He or she can define who you are within minutes of meeting. This is the best and most important boss of your life. It’s the most rewarding job and the most frightening all at the same time. You will constantly critique and question yourself endlessly and even after that, you still will feel unsure, but you are in this road together, and thank god for that, because you teach
them as they teach you.
So on mother’s day, I tried to forgive myself for the mistakes I’ve made, and honor myself that we have gotten through it, and that we will learn even more every little step of the way together with love.
